Organizers:
Institute for Development and International Relations (IRMO) is a public, non-profit, scientific and policy research institute, engaged in the interdisciplinary study of European and international economic, political, cultural relations and communication. Cultural policy and communication constitute the fields of IRMO’s expertise that have been continuously researched within the scope of activities of the Department for Culture and Communication, the focal point of the CresCine IRMO research team. IRMO is a partner in the consortium of 26 partners that will jointly work on a Horizon Europe project ‘Increasing the international competitiveness of the film industry in small European markets’ (CresCine) that aims to, through its research and other activities, contribute to increasing the competitiveness of the film industry across small countries in Europe and improve the international circulation of films and audio-visual content coming from small markets in Europe. This three-year (2023-2026) scientific research project (Research and Innovation Action – RIA), coordinated by Lusófona University in Portugal, brings together the academic community and the film industry. CresCine aims not only to enhance the competitiveness of the European film industry but also to enhance its cultural diversity. This will be achieved by understanding, engaging with, empowering, and ultimately transforming small markets in Europe, through research and piloting in 7 countries (Belgium (Flanders), Croatia, Estonia, Lithuania, Denmark, Ireland and Portugal). The project consortium will benefit from the work of a number of associated partners that include professional associations and other stakeholders from the industry, both from Europe and the USA: Cine-Regio (Belgium), Fonden Creative Business CUP (Denmark), Screen Producers Ireland (Ireland), European Film Agency Directors – EFAD, Animation Ireland (Ireland), Europe Analytica Limited (UK), Online Film Financing – OLFFI, International Cinema Technology Association (USA). From Croatia, the associated project partners are Zagreb Film Festival (ZFF) and Propeler Film.
Zagreb Film Festival (ZFF) is one of the central and most visited cultural events and the largest international film festival in Croatia. It’s held every year in November in Zagreb and presents to the audience the best of recent independent international and domestic film production. From its beginning, ZFF is oriented towards discovering and promoting contemporary independent film and debut films of directors from around the world.
ZFF Industry is one of the biggest training and networking platform in the region. It is a practical and educational platform with masterclasses, pitching sessions, workshops, panel discussions and round tables intended for audience of all ages, interests and level of professional knowledge, from school children to film industry professionals. Each year it brings some of the most prominent film professionals to Zagreb to support new emerging talents. ZFF Industry covers all steps in the filmmaking process: from project and script development, post-production, and packaging of the project to final theatrical distribution.
